Cartoonist Font for Web Design Projects
I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store that sells handmade toys and stationery. The client wanted something playful yet professional, and I needed a font that could capture that balance. That’s when I stumbled upon Cartoonist.
Cartoonist is a display font with an adorable, whimsical style that feels like it belongs in a children's book or a fun illustration. It wasn’t just cute—it had a certain charm that made me think of how it could elevate the brand’s visual storytelling.

On the product landing page, I used Cartoonist for feature headings like “Made with Care” and “Perfect for Kids.” These short, punchy phrases really stood out against the background, and they helped guide the user’s eye naturally down the page. It also played nicely with the overall branding, reinforcing the playful yet trustworthy tone the client was going for.
I experimented with using Cartoonist in call-to-action buttons as well. The button text “Shop Now” in Cartoonist felt approachable and fun, which aligned with the brand’s voice. However, I made sure not to use it for all buttons—only for those where the tone matched the whimsical nature of the font.
Another place where Cartoonist shone was in the blog section. I used it for post titles and section headers. The font added a nice touch of creativity without distracting from the content. It helped create a visual rhythm that kept the reader engaged, especially since the blog was focused on creative ideas and DIY projects.
Before finalizing the font choice, I made sure to check what styles were included. Cartoonist offered several weights and alternates, which gave me flexibility in different sections of the site. It also had good webfont availability, which meant it would load quickly and render smoothly across devices.
Font pairing was another consideration. I paired Cartoonist with a modern sans serif like Montserrat for body text. This combination allowed the design to feel both playful and polished. It was a great example of how a decorative display font can work alongside a simple typeface to create a balanced and professional look.
I also thought about how the font could be used in other digital assets beyond the website. It had potential for social media graphics, email newsletters, and even packaging design.
